Overview:
Flawed Uniqueness is an interactive questionnaire that focuses on helping people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) find the positives in themselves. It also educates people on the varying factors that affect the daily lives of those with BDD. With a strong emphasis on the power of uniqueness, Flawed Uniqueness hopes to help individuals embrace their flaws and teach that BDD is not about vanity, it is a real medical condition that affects 1 in 50 people.
Campaign objectives:
1. Spread awareness of BDD, helping people learn common language and behaviours that are associated with BDD.
2. Give people with BDD a voice and teach the general public about what underlying factors impact those with BDD.

Behind Flawed Uniqueness:
Flawed Uniqueness is a self-discovery device, teaching people with BDD to start thinking about the positives of themselves and begin to celebrate their uniqueness. By creating an interactive questionnaire relating to BDD, users can not only create a unique title that responds personally to them, through the matrix skeleton in relation to the campaign questions. But also, with the wide variety of questions and answers, users can use the campaign as a progress and check-in device. We’ll showcase the personalised tiles on the homepage. This will enable users to see their own personal growth towards their condition, whilst also bringing awareness to BDD.

Instagram was introduced to boost the campaigns awareness, acting as a platform to inform the target audience of the campaign and how it can be applied in everyday life. The page is made up of the abstract tiles with BDD quotes from public figures, and monochrome images alongside the abstract features. The varied online content creates an educational and personal platform.

What I learnt:
Flawed Uniqueness demonstrates that more lies beneath the surface. With a topic such as BDD, respect and empathy are essential. Therefore, my choice of algorithmic design helps to act as a metaphor for this. Through the use of innovative design decisions, the matrix enabled me to use visual language to give an insight into the behaviours and language of BDD.
This project was also a educational insight into a topic I previously knew little about. The use of a matrix enabled me to properly research BDD and provide my own educational aspect of BDD to a wider audience, teaching that BDD is more than a vanity. BDD is a medical condition that too often goes unrecognised.
