Overview:
We were tasked with creating a promotional poster for the University of Readings' Electronic music society (REMS), in supporting DJs such as Oppidan and Kaisui, this involved combining bold visuals, clear messaging, and a style that resonates with UK garage enthusiasts. To visually reflect the electronic music scene we paired vibrant, high-energy colours with dark backgrounds, and bold, digital-style typography. In addition, REMS needed additional extra materials to promote the event, such as leaflets and set timings. This caused us create the versatile, neon swirl design that could be used across a variety of different promotional materials, both digitally and in print.
What I learnt:
This project enabled me to gain valuable insights into designing content that effectively captures attention and communicates key messages to its desired target audience. I learned how to tailor visual elements, such as bold typography and vibrant colours, to align with the energetic atmosphere of the event and resonate with the target audience. This work also strengthened my ability to prioritise essential details like event information and calls-to-action, ensuring they were both clear and visually appealing. Additionally, I developed a deeper understanding of integrating branding elements while experimenting with creative techniques, such as gradients and glitch effects, to create materials that are both cohesive and striking. Overall, this experience enhanced my ability to design impactful promotional materials that balance creativity with functionality.
